Sun

Most people who have even a slight curiosity about astrology will be able to tell you their “star” sign. What in fact they have established is their sun sign – what heavenly constellation the sun was transiting through at the time of birth.

In astrology the sun represents the male energy. It is dynamic, creative and life giving. Consider the sun in our solar system; we know that life on planet earth is dependant on the sun’s warmth and life giving rays. Likewise the sun in astrology is the indicator of how we shine, how we emanate warmth and life giving rays. It represents how we can make a difference, how we can stand apart from the crowd – our individuality. But for the majority of us the energies of the sun are not usually fully discovered or utilised ever.

Therefore the energy of the sun needs to be “found” within oneself and once the source is identified it needs to be worked upon with much courage and endurance. The taurus sun’s vitality is rooted deeply in sensations – it rules the five most common senses of sight, smell, touch, hearing and taste and usually one of these sensations is well utilised in the life of a taurus sun.

Gemini sun radiates through changeability, through communication, through ideas. It’s “hero” story is centred around networking, passing on information, being a source of trivial data. Cancer suns are often very sensitive and so can often be misunderstood as shy, as they are quite protective of the inner self they fiercely protect. The sun in leo is about instilling confidence in others for it is also about generosity and has a great ability to be life giving. It seeks recognition from others, it desires to be the centre of attention and often acts the fool to be just that. The sun is leo is proud and has a regal sense of self, just as its symbol the lion is king of the jungle.

virgo: here the journey of the self can best be expressed by directing the creative energy analytically and with much discrimination. Virgo sun spends much time thinking things through with the consequence that actions are carried out carefully, precisely and perfectly. This can sometimes be a source of great frustration to the person waiting for a quick answer. But the Virgo sun is careful only because it wants to give the best to others and service is one of its greatest gifts.

libra: here the journey of the self can best be expressed through the qualities of fairness, impartiality, kindness and an ability to harmonise opposing forces. The libra sun radiates a sense of beauty and balance. The hero story here is centred around creating relationships whether that be with people or ideas and the need to achieve equilibrium and justice within those relationships. Libra sun’s find it difficult to live in a state of conflict.

Scorpio sun revels in an intense, emotional and powerful intuitive base. A capricorn sun works hard, values authority, seeks to become the expert or authority figure, needs well defined goals and sets well defined boundaries within which they achieves those goals single mindedly. The sun’s vitality is expressed through an almost self effacing need to be empathetic to (and sometimes to be almost swallowed up by the needs of) the less fortunate which can lead to these sun sign people becoming quite vulnerable. yearns for) union with the greater beyond.
